Together

we can make this Christmas Special

Especially for the children

From December 5th to December 15th, the children can use our North Pole post box to send letters to Father Christmas, these will be returned to them within the week.

This will be placed in Church Street (location to be determined and will be updated later) so please keep checking in with us. If you are not already a member of the Brighter Better Orrell Facebook Group, please join us today!

Especially for the families

This year the BBO has been working hard, behind the scenes, to secure more funding through Brighter Borough and we have to thank Councillor Michael Winstanley, for his support, as always for this.  Michael is funding more lights to go through Orrell Post and Church Street on the lamposts instead of above the shops as before.

We are also being donated a 17ft tree by Windy Arbour Farm, which is amazing and the lights will be funded by the Brighter Borough Fund.  This new addition to the Festive Spirit will be placed inside Living Faith Church front garden (for safety reasons) and they have kindly offered to connect the lights to their electricity supply and there will be a collection to support this.

Once our trees are up and lit at Orrell Post, Book Cycle, Bispham Methodist, Crank Road, and Living Faith (provisional date week beginning 1st December) we will be encouraging a Festive Family Stroll (focus weekend 11th 12th and 13th December) to view these and all the decorations going up in the windows of your homes and gardens.  Once again it's an opportunity to get dressed up in those Christmas antlers, jumpers, bob caps and embrace the Christmas Community Spirit.

For the isolated and vulnerable

As a community, we are hoping to bring the Season of Good Will alive by dropping small doorstep gifts off for this group of people.  We are encouraging "secret little helpers" to join our team of families who are ready to make deliveries in the weeks running up to Christmas Eve.

We already have lead helpers to cover the following areas; Delphside and Milcroft Road estate, Redwood areas, Station Avenue, Gantley Road.

If you know of anyone who would appreciate a doorstep chat and little gift or you and your family can take a card and little gifts provided by us (but paintings and small children's crafts would be nice too).  We want to encourage as many young families as possible in this as many of the people would love to see a young face dropping off their gift. It's also the perfect opportunity for your little ones to dress up or teenagers to sport their new Christmas jumpers.

Something for our businesses - A Magical Virtual Christmas Fayre

Since Covid and lockdown in March, the BBO has been trying to support local businesses and encourage people to buy local on our Thursday advertising Facebook page.

We have now taken a step further and will be launching our Magical Virtual Christmas Fayre on Tuesday, December 1st.

BBO, supported by Skils, will also have their online shop featured on our website with Christmas Tree decorations and coasters for sale together with our BBO cups.

Something to help us to continue to support the work in our Community.  A Grand Raffle

In order for us to sustain our work and "put back" into our community in so many different ways, we need to keep raising funds as many grants ask for match funding.

This is where we look for your support in offering items for our chocolate, food, and drinks hamper. Tickets for this will be sold as part of the focused weekend.

If you have items you can donate or you are a business that can offer another service for our prize draw please get in touch with us today

Something to spot for everyone because we are all children at heart

Last but not least the man himself will be out and about for spotting around Orrell over the festive period for the little ones to spot.

It won't always be Father Christmas, as you know he is very busy this time of year but he will send out his helpers so everyone, please keep your eyes "peeled" and take some photos and post them on our Facebook page (from a safe social distance of course).
